One of the keys to ensuring that your pets live long, healthy and happy lives is regular pet wellness checkups at Animals ‘R’ Us Veterinary Clinic in Boise. Have you prioritized pet wellness care? Did you know that an annual or biannual wellness exam allows us to spot potential health problems early before they become more difficult or expensive to treat. It also allows us to keep your pet up-to-date on core vaccines and booster shots, and to keep them free from common pet parasites.
Wellness Physical Exam
Our pet wellness exams begin with a visual and physical inspection of your pet. Our pets cannot tell us when they have a health problem, so this is the best way for a veterinarian to determine if there is one. A wellness exam will usually consist of the following:
- Pet is weighed & visually inspected
- Eyes, ears & nose examined
- Visual dental inspection of mouth & teeth
- Abdomen & digestive system checked
- Examine skin & coat
- Listen to lungs & heart
- Manual checks of lymph nodes, bones & joints
During the exam, the vet will also discuss your pet’s diet; the nutritional needs of our pets can change over time as they age. The vet will also talk about your pet’s activity level and behaviors, to see whether there is anything out of the ordinary.
